Dr. Stephen Barkalow has spent his career helping patients in the Monterey Bay area live healthier, better lives.
As a young adult, Stephen worked nights and weekends to pay for college, graduating from the University of Hartford with a B.A. in Political Science. Pursuing a life-long interest in health care, he earned his B.S. in Biology amd his doctoral degree in chiropractic from Southern California University. By 1978, he had opened a private practice and was treating patients from across the Monterey Bay area.
In 1989, Stephen teamed with a family practice MD to open the Monterey Clinic, the first multidisciplinary clinic on the Monterey Peninsula. The clinic employed six physicians, who specialized in chiropractic, general medicine, internal medicine, neurology, psychology and physical therapy. The clinic built a loyal clientele by ensuring that patient care came first.
Stephen has been a director of research and a member of the ethics committee for the California Chiropractic Association, and is active in several national medical organizations. He has pursued training in sports medicine, nutrition, chronic disease, and pain management. In addition to practicing chiropractic medicine, he has mentored doctors as an extension faculty member at Southern California University and Palmer College of Chiropractic West.
Stephen is also a husband and a father. He and his wife Lisa have two sons, Derek and Lee. Derek is finishing his masters degree in international relations at St. Andrews University in Scotland, while Lee is following in his father's footsteps and is in his second year of pre-medical requirements at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
The Barkalow family lives in Carmel. They enjoy surfing and biking around beautiful Monterey Bay.
